Current Opening - Academic Advisor I, College of Social Work


The University of Tennessee Knoxville, College of Social work is accepting applications for the Academic Advisor I position. This position is a member of the BSSW Program professional staff, reporting directly to the BSSW Program Director. The position is responsible for providing academic advising for undergraduate students pursuing the Social Work major. The position will teach lower division social work courses at discretion of the BSSW Program Director. In conjunction with university orientation staff, the position coordinates and leads new student and transfer student orientation sessions for all incoming students declaring the social work major. The position will serve on a variety campus-wide committees related to their work as an Academic Advisor I and/or as the BSSW program representative. The position will also coordinate with university student services to promote academic success.


The Academic Advisor I position requires a master’s degree in social work with 2 years post-master’s social work related experience. Possessing experience with undergraduate teaching is preferred. The position must have the ability to articulate the depth and breadth of the social work profession and the Social Work Code of Ethics. Evidence of leadership and strong organizational ability, including multi-tasking is highly important for this position. The position requires strong written and oral communication skills and must have experience or capacity to effectively use university-wide electronic databases and learning management software.
