Research Interests

Erin Story's research interests include the effect of neighborhood social characteristics on child maltreatment and neighborhood social characteristics measurement.

Erin has presented her literature review and proposal to her doctoral committee and is now ready to begin data collection and work on her PhD dissertation. Her presentation was titled, "Measurement Invariance and Construct Validity of the Sense of Community Index." Erinís dissertation research will examine the measurement equivalence and convergent and divergent validity evidence of the Sense of Community Index (SCI). Specifically, her dissertation will examine whether the SCI works the same across rural, suburban, and urban neighborhoods, and whether the SCI is related to other measures of sense of community, but distinct from measures of neighborhood disorder. She plans to defend her dissertation this summer.
