A Multi-level Intervention to Support Students in the Aftermath of Violence

Dr. Patricia Bamwine’s proposal “A Multi-level Intervention to Support Students in the Aftermath of Violence: A Campus-Community Partnership” was funded by the Division for Diversity and Engagement.  The project will provide weekly mental health support groups for students within the school setting, an online training for parents, and support services for teachers/staff.

Additionally, Bamwine accepted into the Researcher Resilience Training Program (RRT) at Washington University in St. Louis. The RRT program is an NIMH-funded program designed to provide advanced doctoral students and early career investigators of African descent interested in child and adolescent behavioral health, with the necessary research skills to address the significant challenges that exist within resource-poor settings. RRT fellows will receive didactic instruction, mentoring, “hands-on” experience in child-focused studies, individualized consultation, goal setting, and monitoring and ongoing support resources across time.

She will be working in the Race & Opportunities Lab with Professor Sean Joe and in collaboration with HomegrownSTL to design a mixed-methods study on victim services. This opportunity will help her in building her research team and program in Tennessee.
