Alumni Council Spotlight- Katherine Cassata-Wines

Katherine Cassata-Wines received her BSW in Social Work from Austin Peay State University and her MSSW from UT College of Social Work in 2020. She currently works at Humana Health Insurance in Clarksville, Tennessee, as a Care Coordinator, Support Social Worker.


Social Work Job Duties: Assisting members in locating local community resources to help provide a better quality of life.

Other Social Work Experience: Social Service Director with a Skilled Nursing Facility.

Why did you become a social worker?
I became a social worker to make a difference in the quality and care of individuals.

What is the best part of being a social worker?
Empowering others is the best part.

What is the biggest challenge?
My biggest challenge is knowing if I made the right decision with resources for individuals.

Who or what is your inspiration?
I believe that Jane Addams is a huge inspiration as she paved the foundation for what we do as social workers to this date.

What is your self-care routine?
Spending time with my family and dogs. I also enjoy gardening and maintaining house plants.

What do you love about being a UTCSW alum?
I love the relationships that were made during and after my time with UTCSW.

If you had to choose one social work value as most important from the Code of Ethics, which one would you choose and why?
Dignity and worth of a person. I resonate most with this value because I believe without respecting the dignity and worth of a person, we cannot fully build a trusting and working relationship.
