Course Description

While grief is most often associated with death, humans experience grief from a variety of other non-death losses as well. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, our clients have experienced unprecedented and cumulative losses over the past three years. Many practitioners express feeling ill-prepared to meet the needs of their grieving clients, especially when academic instruction is often limited to a “staged” or linear model of grief. This workshop will address common misconceptions about the grief process and empower attendees to engage in grief-informed practice with clients experiencing loss.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify common losses and grief reactions impacting children, adolescents, and adults;
  2. Compare modern models of grief counseling; and
  3. Describe the Core Principles of Grief-Informed Practice.
