Cronley will use her time to focus on a pilot project she will conduct with Dr. Christina Barroso (Public Health). The mixed-methods study builds on some of her prior work and will use an equity and inclusion perspective to investigate how families living in emergency shelters or transitional housing, who are disproportionately minority race and face elevated risk for chronic health diseases, envision their ideal outdoor and recreational environments.

A variety of data collection methods, daily diary, photovoice, and interviews will be used to investigate how much time families experiencing homelessness spend in outdoor physical activity daily; the kinds of outdoor places and activities families find most appealing for play, exercise, and socializing and; the features of outdoor and recreational environments that would make the spaces feel inclusive and safe.
