Coalition of Black Social Workers wins 2020 Large Organization of the Year Award

Coalition of Black Social Workers Wins Student Organization Award

The Coalition of Black Social Workers was named one of the Student Organization of the Year awards from the University on April 29, by the Center for Student Engagement.

“I wanted to share some exciting news with you,” stated Carmen Foster, faculty sponsor, to the group.  “Our student organization at UT was awarded one of the ‘Large Student Organization Awards’ for the 2019-2020 school year.  This is a very special award, as there are hundreds of student organizations on campus, even fewer are nominated, and only a handful win.  What a blessing! For everyone who has invested their time and energy into this group, as a student, a professional, a mentor, or an organization partner…THANK YOU!   It is because of your support that we are able to continue to move forward and encourage the next generation of black social workers.”

Brittney Wright of the Center for Student Engagement announced the award stating, “The Coalition for Black Social Workers exists to engage, connect, and empower Black social work students and professionals in the community, with the goal of increasing awareness about issues specific to the Black community and cultivating a network of support.”

She noted that the organization has accomplished its goals by sponsoring such events as the annual conference at the UT College of Social Work Nashville campus.

The UT College of Social Work could not be more proud of the work this organization has accomplished and the way that they have promoted diversity within our college and the surrounding communities. We are especially proud of the way this group stepped up in service after a tornado ripped through the city of Nashville.  CBSW students and professionals were able to partner with another organization to provide food relief to families who were affected by the tornado.
