Dr. Stan Bowie Receives Grant Funding for Recent Research

Stan L. Bowie

Congratulations to Dr. Stan Bowie on his recently funded grant. The title of the grant is “Assessing Racial Disparities in America’s Pet and Animal Welfare Organizations: A Multi-Site Study of Four Agencies.”

The study will explore whether racial disparities exist within animal welfare organizations and in four communities in Arizona, North Carolina, Texas, and Tennessee.  Using a framework of structural racism, the mixed-method study will explore how animal control and pet adoption practices differentially impact racial and ethnic groups in the targeted communities.  The study results should help to inform discussions within the industry in their efforts to reduce disparities across racial and ethnic groups. The study is funded by Companions and Animals for Reform and Equity (CARE). Dr. Bowie is the Principal Investigator and Linda Daugherty is the Project Director.
