Elizabeth H. Strand Receives NASW-TN 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award

NASW-TN recognized Dr. Elizabeth Strand, MSSW, LCSW, PhD, with the 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award in the March issue of their newsletter, Children and Family Connections. They stated that Dr. Strand is “a true social work pioneer and perhaps our youngest lifetime achievement award winner.” The NASW-TN Awards ceremony generally takes place at the annual Social Work Day on the Hill event in Nashville that had originally been scheduled for March 24.

The Lifetime Achievement Award is given to an NASW member in celebration of a lifetime of accomplishments. This award recognizes an individual who demonstrates outstanding professional values and accomplishments throughout their lifetime.

Dr. Strand’s pioneering work includes founding and serving as the director of Veterinary Social Work (VSW) at the University of Tennessee Colleges of Social Work and Veterinary Medicine. Through her leadership and vision, the VSW Certificate Program for students enrolled in the UT Social Work graduate program provides students with a comprehensive foundation in veterinary social work focusing on the knowledge and skills needed to integrate animals into social work practice in ethically sound ways, and in keeping with the values of the social work profession.
