Staff Profile – Q & A with Hannah Collins

Hannah Collins is an Administrative Specialist for the Field Programs at UTCSW. She is located in Henson Hall on the Knoxville campus.

How long have you worked at the College of Social Work?
I started with the College in May 2020, smack dab in the middle of the pandemic! I left in July of 2021 but came back in October 2021.  I’m so glad to be back “home.”

What does your job entail?
I work with the Field program and support the field coordinators on the Nashville and Knoxville campuses with a range of duties. Basically, I assist with the moving parts that are required for a student to begin their field placement at an agency. Some of my duties include managing agency contracts and the Intern Placement Tracking System (IPT), while also revising and creating different forms for field. When situations like the pandemic occur, we have to be flexible and adapt to make students’ field placement process as successful as it can be.  There are several moving pieces in field that are required to be arranged before a student begins their placement, so I help with making that process as smooth as possible for all involved.

What is your favorite part of the job and/or favorite part of UT?
My favorite part about the job is definitely the pace and people. I used to work in the financial realm within different banking institutions, and when you help the public deal with their finances the situations can evolve quickly and become tense, so I enjoy working in higher education to help benefit students in whatever way I can. Besides, it keeps me feeling young!

What do you like best about living and working in Knoxville?
I’m born and raised in East Tennessee and always feel at home when I smell freshly mowed grass and experience our very obvious change in seasons. Also, the southern hospitality goes a long way in making communications more enjoyable here in Knoxville.

Anything else you’d like to add?
My husband and I are excited to become new parents later this year to identical twin boys and I’m so grateful to have the CSW supporting me along the way.
