event graphic see page information

OVERVIEW

This workshop will allow Clinical Practitioners and those engaged in Organizational Leadership to learn concepts and considerations that address trauma from a macro perspective. We will discuss definitions of trauma, how the human nervous system responds to trauma as well as assess and integrate knowledge of current trauma-informed practices within agencies and organizations. The materials in this workshop will allow all participants to bring trauma-informed practices and perspective into policies within any context. We will use case studies, examine different assessment processes, review various policies for relevance to trauma responsiveness, and learn from each other.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

As a result of attending this presentation, participants will be able to:

1. Describe the basics of trauma theory;

2. Assess main methods that a system can use to become trauma-informed as well as red flags for an agency or organization that is not trauma-informed;

3. Assess a system the participant is already part of for trauma-informed care—evaluate practices already in place and provide recommendations for interventions to be more trauma-informed;

4. Develop ability to find and utilize resources for increased trauma-informed care;

5. Advocate for trauma-informed care within a system; and

6. Understand how to implement self-care for staff in a helping profession.
