Dr. Stan Bowie
Chermaine Cole

Dr. Stan Bowie and Chermaine Cole were awarded a Summer Graduate Research Assistantship (SARIF) to work on extending the “Preparation for Graduate Social Work Education (PGSWE) Survey and Research Program.”  They propose to administer an updated version of the PGSWE Survey to post-2001 Social Work graduates that will provide more current information about student experiences from a more geographically and ethnically diverse sample. The outcomes will include an expanded data base that can be used to inform recruitment, retention and curricular decisions.

Dr. Mary Held
Melody Huslage
Mary Huslage

Dr. Mary Held and Melody Huslage were awarded a Student/Faculty Research Award (SFRA) from the Graduate School for their project titled “Mitigating the Effects of Anti-Immigration Sentiment and COVID-19 on Immigrant Communities: The Role of Resilience.” Their mixed-methods study proposes to collect quantitative data from 300 immigrant adults to investigate: 1) whether/how immigrants’ experiences of anti-immigration sentiment, COVID-19, and discrimination and symptoms of depression and anxiety vary by origin, gender and age, and 2) the moderating role of resilience in the association between experiences of anti-immigration sentiment, COVID-19, and discrimination, and symptoms of depression and anxiety. They will also conduct interviews with 20 participants to explore in-depth immigrant lived experiences of resilience and stress related to anti-immigration sentiment, COVID-19, and discrimination.  Results will inform future research and services.
